Shrestha takes four-stroke lead in Western Open golf

KATHMANDU, Feb 9 - Nepal number one golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha carded three-under 67 on Thursday at the Himalayan Golf Course, Pokhara to remain on the top of the leader board of Surya Nepal Western Open. Shrestha is at three-under 137at the end of the second day.

KATHMANDU, Feb 9 - Nepal number one golfer Shiva Ram Shrestha carded three-under 67 on Thursday at the Himalayan Golf Course, Pokhara to remain on the top of the leader board of Surya Nepal Western Open. Shrestha is at three-under 137at the end of the second day.



In the third event of Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016/17, defending champion Dhana Thapa is four strokes behind Shrestha as he carded one-over 71 on Thursday for a total of one-over 141.

Bhuwan Nagarkoti is at third position for a total of two-over 142 after playing a round of two-over 72 on Thursday.


Sanjay Lama scored two-under 68 for a total of three-over 143 to be on the fourth place after second day.


Shrestha, the leader scored even-par 35 on the front nine, he made birdies on third and ninth holes and dropped shot on fifth and eighth holes. On the back nine he made birdies on 10th, 12th, 15th and 17th holes but made bogey on last hole for three-under 32.


27 players survived the cut including six amateurs, who will pay the final 18-holes on Friday. A total of 41 golfers, including 13 amateurs, are taking part in the tournament organized by Nepal Professional Golfers Association under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. The top three professional golfers will receive Rs 110,000, Rs 70,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.
