Shrestha wins on first day

KATHMANDU, Mar 12: The host departmental team Armed Police Force’s Suraj Kumar Shrestha has started the 10th Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Tournament with a win over the other departmental team’s Sanjay Kumar Jha on Sunday.

KATHMANDU, Mar 12: The host departmental team Armed Police Force’s Suraj Kumar Shrestha has started the 10th Sahabir Memorial Open Lawn Tennis Tournament with a win over the other departmental team’s Sanjay Kumar Jha on Sunday. In men’s singles, Shrestha beat Jha 6-4, 4-6, 11-9, while Shyam Khadka defeated Armed Police’s Narendra Kumar Singh 6-3, 7-5. Also, Army’s Uttam Bogati saw off Bikash Pandey 6-4, 6-4, while Armed Police’s Tribhuvan Bogati overcame Armed Police’s Diwakar KC 6-2, 6-2. Pokhara’s Anil Shahi won in the same category due to walkover by Kathmandu’s Dinesh Dangol. In over-45 age category of veteran’s singles, Kathmandu’s Raju Rai and Rajesh Shrestha also started with wins along with Naresh Bahadur Shrestha and Muktisen Gurung in the over-35 age category. Also, in over-55 category, Makawanpur’s Kamal Thapa beat Kathmandu’s Pabitra Jung Rayamajhi 6-1, 6-0, while Lalitpur’s Krishna Raj Ghale and Kathmandu’s Bishnu Prasad Gaire won due to walkover.
