Chief District Officer of Tanahu, Sagar Acharya said that four crusher plants in Shuklagandaki Municipality and one each in Myagde Rural Municipality and Bandipur Rural Municipality were closed.

The move was taken after the crusher plants were found illegally extracting sand, stones and other resources from the rivers in the district.

“Stones, pebbles, and sand are the properties of the local governments. The local units should know this and work for its protection,” Acharya said, adding that the municipality did not write to the crusher plants concerned to prevent the excavation of sand and stones.

“Illegal excavation of the rivers is not acceptable,” he stated.
