KATHMANDU, March 5: Six people were killed and 34 injured in two separate road accidents in Surkhet and Makawanpur districts on Wednesday.
In Makawanpur district, three people were killed and 30 injured when a bus carrying a wedding party met with an accident at Shikharkoti in Makawanpur Rural Municipality in the district on Wednesday evening. Two of the dead have been identified as Som Bahadur Rumba, 35, and Som Bahadur Moktan, 29, from ward 7 of the municipality. The identity of the third has yet to be ascertained, police said. The injured are being treated at Hetauda and Churehill hospitals. The accident was caused by overloading, brake failure and poor condition of the road, according to the injured.
Two killed, three injured in separate road accidents in Jhapa
In Surkhet, three persons died and four including the driver were injured when a jeep heading from Chigad Rural Municipality to Birendranagar veered off the road and plunged around 400 meters Wednesday morning.
The dead have been identified as Dev Bahadur Khadka, 52, Khadka Bahadur Budhathoki, 40, and his wife Goma Budhathoki, 39. The jeep is said to have fallen from a narrow bend near Galchhi of the Ratanagla-Dharampokhara road.
“There was a very narrow bend and the road was sloped too. The jeep had fallen down when it tried to give way to a vehicle coming from the opposite direction,” said a local of Chigad, Bir Bahadur Gaha. “The accident could have been averted had the driver given way to the approaching vehicle by putting his vehicle on a reverse gear,” he added.
The four injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital. High speed has been blamed for the accident.
