Twenty-one-year-old Ashmita Poudel is pursuing her bachelor’s level in Major English. She has been working as a security guard for a week now and this is her first job.

Originally from Okhaldhunga, Ashmita currently lives in Jorpati. She had to leave her hometown and move to Kathmandu after her SLC (now SEE) for higher education.

Ashmita says she is having a hard time balancing education, work and home all by herself. Her duty begins from nine in the morning and lasts till six in the evening. She aspires to become a police officer in the near future. “I will return to my hometown if I fail to get in at the police force. Life in Kathmandu is really difficult, especially when you are left to fend for yourself.”
