KATHMANDU, April 2: The postponed exams of Secondary Education Examinations (SEE) and regular classes at schools in Province 2 will not be affected despite the devastation caused by Sunday's storm, officials said.
According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), a total of 70,518 students appearing in the examinations at 262 exam centers in eight districts of the province were affected by the cancellation of SEE exams of March 28 to April 4. The postponed exams have been scheduled for April 5 to 12, according to the National Examinations Board (NEB).
Wind storm likely at a few places of Koshi and Sudurpaschim
The rainstorms of Sunday evening blew away tin roofs of four schools in Bara district as per the preliminary reports, said Baikuntha Aryal, spokesperson for the MoEST. “The schools are already closed, except for Grade 10 students, for a month following the conclusion annual examinations,” said Aryal. “The schools will reopen from April 15. So the classes of the school students will not be affected,” he added. “So far as SEE exams are concerned, the postponed exams will be conducted from April 5 to 12 as scheduled by the NEB.”
Following leaks of a series of SEE question papers, the government postponed the SEE examinations in Province 2 last Friday. It also formed a probe panel and asked the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police to probe into the scandal.
There are 3,853 total schools including 533 private schools in Province 2. The 3,320 government schools and 533 private schools have a total number of 1,255,635 students in Province 2, according to the MoEST reports.
