Substituion bill on TRC, CIEDP endorsed by House

KATHMANDU, July 3: The federal parliament on Monday endorsed a bill to replace a two-month 0ld ordinance to extend the terms of two transitional justice bodies - Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP).

KATHMANDU, July 3: The federal parliament on Monday endorsed a bill to replace a two-month 0ld ordinance to extend the terms of two transitional justice bodies - Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP).The replacement bill was endorsed by the National Assembly on Friday. With the passage of the bill the terms of the two bodies has been formally extended till February 2019. Responding to the concerns of lawmakers, Law Minister Sher Bahadur Tamang said that a new concept in transitional justice is under discussion to wind up the existing transitional justice mechanisms. The government plans to bring a new bill to this effect soon. Earlier at the meeting, lawmakers criticized the government over the delay in tabling the replacement bill.
