Surkhet-Delhi bus service starts

SURKHET, June 2: Mid-western Transportation Entrepreneurs Association (MTEA) has started direct bus service connecting Birendranagar, the capital of Karnali Province, and Indian capital New Delhi beginning from Friday.

SURKHET, June 2: Mid-western Transportation Entrepreneurs Association (MTEA) has started direct bus service connecting Birendranagar, the capital of Karnali Province, and Indian capital New Delhi beginning from Friday.



The bus fare for the 634-kilometer journey has been fixed at Rs 2400.

“We started this service for the convenience of the passengers who travel to India for employment and medical purpose,” chairperson of MTEA, Bishnu Bahadur Khadka, said, adding, “We will expand the service depending on the response of customers.” According to MTEA, buses named “Rara AC” will depart from Surkhet to New Delhi twice a week.


Majority of the people of Karnali Province go to India for employment and medical check-up as well as treatment. “There has been increase in the trend of robbery of Nepali employees on the way home from India. We intend to address this problem,” Chairperson Khadka added. 


The bus service, which is the first-of-its-kind in Karnali Province, will travel via Rupaidiya, Bareilly and Gaziabad till it reaches New Delhi. It will leave Surkhet at 3 pm and reach New Delhi the next morning at around 6 am. The buses will have modern facilities like free wi-fi, mobile charger, AC and drinking water. It will depart from Surkhet on Sundays and Wednesdays and return from New Delhi on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
