KATHMANDU, July 20: Over a month after a foreigner was arrested on the charge of sexually abusing a minor, police have arrested another 66-year-old Swiss citizen for his alleged involvement in pedophilia, a psychiatric disorder that leads to sexual attraction toward children.

A team of the Metropolitan Crime Division (MCD) Friday arrested Peter Christian Langendorf, 66, from Bafal, Kathmandu. He was arrested after he was found sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy by taking him to various hotels in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur by offering financial inducement, according to police.

According to a press statement issued by the MCD, Langendorf befriended the minor through Facebook, and sexually abused him by offering money.

The statement read that the accused took the minor to various hotels in Bhaktapur and Kathmandu and sexually abused him.

“The accused has confessed to the crime during our preliminary investigation and a case of forced sex has been filed against him,” read the statement.

As part of the investigation, it has been found that Langendorf was operating Trigger Inn in Chuchepati and Welcome Heritage Inn in Bhaktapur Durbar Square in partnership with two organizations called Langtang Education Project and Edu-core Swiss Nepal in Rasuwa.

On June 14, the Crime Investigation Bureau had arrested a 66-year-old Dutchman in the capital on suspicion of involvement in pedophilia. Piet Hein Van Terwisga, a child adolescence doctor from the Netherlands, was arrested by a CIB team from a hotel in Thamel. Terwisga was with a minor in his hotel room at the time of his arrest.

In April, former UN-Habitat country representative for Afghanistan Peter John Dalglish was arrested on the charge of sexually abusing children. Dalgish was arrested from Mandan Deupur Municipality in Kavrepalanchowk district in April.

As per the law, a person convicted of pedophilia may be jailed for eight to 12 years.

The number of pedophiles arrested in the last two years has reached ten, including eight foreigners, according to the police. Among the arrested foreigners, six are above 60. Most of them have been found sexually abusing children under the cover of philanthropic activity, according to the CIB.
