TRC sets out probe into complaints about 58052 cases of conflict-era

LALITPUR, July 11: Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), a catalyst to the peace process in Nepal, has started conducting an investigation into complaints lodged at the district level. The TRC is looking into 58,052 cases lodged from various districts.

LALITPUR, July 11: Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), a catalyst to the peace process in Nepal, has started conducting an investigation into complaints lodged at the district level. The TRC is looking into 58,052 cases lodged from various districts.



A team comprising two experts coordinated by a joint attorney general has been entrusted with the responsibility of looking into the complaints regarding the incidents of gross violation of human rights that occurred during armed conflict in seven provinces.


According to Surya Kiran Gurung, a chairman of the TRC, the designated team in the provinces will carry out a probe into the nature of complaints and lay bare the facts.

The government prosecutor at the high court will take charge as the joint attorney general while one among the two experts will be a woman in the team.


TRC had started its work on establishing the acting offices in seven provinces and completed yesterday. TRC established its acting office in Lalitpur of Province 3, yesterday.


Narayan Paudel of Prosecutor of High Court of Province-3 has been designated as the joint attorney general.


The TRC has already established its office in Biratnagar of Province 1, in Janakpur of Province 2, in Pokhara of Province 4, in Tulsipur of Province 5 and in Surkhet of Province 7.
