Smuggling goods on the rise in Bara

KATHMANDU, July 18: In Bara, there has been a sharp increase in the quantity of goods being brought in by evading revenue. The price of confiscated goods seized by the police indicates a rising trend in the smuggling of various goods.

In the fiscal year 2023/24, the police seized goods worth Rs 574,035,651, which is four times more than the previous fiscal year. In 2022/23, goods worth Rs 126.12 million were seized, and in 2021/22, illegal goods worth Rs 24.38 million were seized.


The police attribute their success to the active vigilance of security personnel along the Nepal-India border, enabling them to recover goods brought in by evading customs duty.
