KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Tribhuvan University (TU) has shown negligence toward issuing appointment letters to the candidates who passed the exams taken by the TU Service Commission.
According to the TU, the university has already published the results of 1175 successful candidates who passed the internal competition for the post of assistant lecturers in different subjects. Meanwhile, the university is also in the process of issuing appointment letters to 457 assistant lecturers under the open competition.

However, the TU has not issued appointment letters as per the rules within the stipulated time of 35 days from the date of the publication of the results. “Our results were published on November 16. However, the TU is yet to issue the appointment letters,” said a successful candidate of sociology for the post of assistant lecturer, requesting anonymity. Another candidate of social work also complained of similar problem. Both of the candidates passed the TUSC exams from open competition group.
Earlier, the TU had courted controversy by recruiting 1,117 teachers on a permanent basis although they were hired on contract. Now, the TU has failed to issue the appointment letters to the successful candidates.
Prof Dr Tirtha Raj Khaniya, vice chancellor of TU, said that they were working as per the rules. “The rule is to issue appointment letters within 35 days after TU Executive Council decides to appoint them,” claimed VC Khaniya, seeking an excuse. “We have already started issuing the appointment letters subject-wise and turn-wise. We are gradually deciding on the appointment of candidates. Perhaps, their turn will come gradually.”
TU VC Khaniya further said that the successful candidates should not have shared the matter with the media. “They should have asked us rather than telling it to newspapers,” he expressed his dissatisfaction over the complaints.
