SINDHULI, Jan 11: Police on Thursday arrested two people from the ashram of self-proclaimed ascetic Ram Bahadur Bomjan at Paire of Kamalamai Municipality-8 in Sindhuli district.

A team from the District Police Office (DPO), Sindhuli, arrested Bomjan’s followers Gopal Yonjan of Sarlahi and Indra Bahadur Syangtang of Makawanpur, according to Chhatra Ghishing, central committee member of Bodhi Shrawan Dharma Sangh, the organization headed by Bomjan.

Chief of the DPO, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rameshwar Yadav confirmed the arrests. He informed that a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bimal Kandel, who came from the DPO, Sindhupalchowk, is interrogating the arrestees.

But police refused to divulge further details. “They have been held simply for interrogation,” said SP Yadav.

He further said that they do not have any plan to arrest Bomjan, who has been charged with sexual assaults and disappearing at least four of his disciples. “We currently don’t have permission to arrest Bomjan,” said SP Yadav.

Bomjan is currently staying at his ashram in Sindhuli with around 200 followers. He has been refusing to speak to the media about the charges.

The Sindhuli ashram was built by clearing around 60 bigha [over 40 hectares] of forest land. Several illegal structures have already been erected while a permanent building is also being constructed on the encroached land.
