Two dead, one missing in Nawalparasi flood

NAWALPARASI, August 5: Incessant rain in Nawalparasi district since Thursday has triggered massive flooding and the loss of two lives so far. Another person is missing, and about 3,000 houses have been inundated.

NAWALPARASI, August 5: Incessant rain in Nawalparasi district since Thursday has triggered massive flooding and the loss of two lives so far. Another person is missing, and about 3,000 houses have been inundated.



Among the deceased is 11-year-old Krishna Gupta of Palhinandan Rural Municipality-3, who drowned. Brij Lal Gupta of the same locality is the other deceased, according to District Police Office (DPO), Nawalparasi.


Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bishnu Hari Koirala  further informed that Ibrahim Miya has gone missing in the flooded Khajura River and a search is ongoing.

With about 3,000 houses inundated, property worth millions  has been damaged. The flood also affected  neighboring Ward 4 of the rural municipality. Locals of Pratappur Rural Municipality also sustained considerable property damage. Settlements in wards 3, 4, 8 and 9 have been hit hard. According to Raj Kumar Sharma, chief of the rural municipality, 1,500 houses have been inundated in Pratappur.


Likewise, about 1,000 houses in  Rampur Khadaini and Pusauli of Sarawal Rural Municipality and Bhujawa in ward 7 have been inundated.  Chief of the rural municipality Ram Shyam Chaudhary said the flood has destroyed property worth millions  in the rural municipality.


Likewise, settlements in Paldihinanda Rural Municipality-1, including Rampurwa, Shankarpur and Chamkipur Tola have also been flooded. Parsiya and Belaspur of ward 3; Palhi of ward 4, Gerami of ward 5, and Sani Village of ward 6 saw over 100 houses inundated, according to Baiju Prasad Gupta, chief of the rural municipality. 


Some houses in Ramgram Municipality likewise sustained damage in the inundation as did Betahani of Bardaghat Municipality-4 and Chisapani in ward 2.


The inundation also caused losses in  foodgrain, clothing and other property.


Relief was distributed  Saturday to flood victims in Sarabal Rural Municipality-5 . Settlements such as Rampur Khadauna  received the flood relief, according to Jhabiswar Regmi, executive officer of Sarawal Rural Municipality.
