KATHMANDU, March 27: The ruling CPN-UML and main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) have expressed their objections to the European Union Election Observation Report on the elections for the House of Representatives and provincial assemblies.

Issuing a statement on Monday, UML concluded that EU-EOM has violated Articles 3 and 4 of the Montevideo Convention in recommending to the Government of Nepal to amend its constitution and remove the reservation quota for the Khas-Arya community under proportional representation.

"Under Articles 3 and 4 of the Montevideo Convention, Nepal is fully entitled to determine or choose its political, administrative, economic and legal and constitutional system independently. Under Article 8 of the Convention, any interference or attempt to interfere with any other state in such matters is against international laws," reads the statement.

Meanwhile, the ongoing NC Central Committee meeting also discussed the EU EOM report on Monday. NC leader and former minister Ramesh Lekhak demanded that NC  make its position public about the EU EOM report. "NC will come up with the party's official position at the conclusion of the ongoing meeting as we believe that some recommendations of the report exceed the jurisdiction of the observation mission," said NC spokesperson Biswa Prakash Sharma after the meeting.
