SURKHET, Oct 1: The process of voting is currently underway for the election of the leadership of CPN-UML Karnali Province. The voting started at 10AM today. The first session of the UML convention, originally scheduled for two days, failed to reach a consensus on the leadership selection, necessitating the election on the fifth day.

"It took a long time for the unanimous leadership selection due to some internal disputes and according to the directives of the party," said a leader, "The main contenders for the chairmanship, Gulab Jung Shah and Min Bahadur Shahi, are not willing to step aside, so the vote is being held."

The election committee initially set the voting schedule to begin at 2PM on Saturday. However, after the party's central authority encouraged efforts to reach a consensus, discussions continued. In the absence of an agreement, the election schedule was adjusted to run from 10AM to 5PM. According to Election Officer Anita Timilsina, the counting of votes will take place immediately after the election.

A total of 604 representatives are participating in the convention. The ongoing convention aims to establish a 135-member provincial committee.
