KATHMANDU, June 10: The Tribhuvan University (TU), the biggest university in the country, remains padlocked for months under different pretexts, leading to chaos in the university affecting academic activities. Fear looms large about the anarchy in the university as stakeholders remain apathetic to the TU’s sorry state of affairs.

At the same time, university management and officials have been heavily criticized for paying poor attention to unlock the padlock in the TU.

The issue of padlock at the TU was also raised in Thursday’s parliament meeting with top priority by the MPs.

The MPs have drawn attention of the government asking whether the university is a knowledge sharing institution or a venue for protests.

Taking part in the deliberation in the Appropriation Bill 2079 BS, lawmakers Rajendra Gautam and Yogesh Bhattarai asked if the country is getting rid of the culture of padlocking the university.

Bhattarai also asked the government for an appropriate remedy of the padlock, which has become a common form of protest.
