Vehicles worth Rs 81m for 15 mayors

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Irrespective of the government’s directives not to buy new vehicles for local body representatives, many newly-elected mayors and deputy mayors have purchased expensive vehicles or are set to do so.

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Irrespective of the government’s directives not to buy new vehicles for local body representatives, many newly-elected mayors and deputy mayors have purchased expensive vehicles or are set to do so. 



Most of the mayors in the Kathmandu Valley have failed to perform any laudable work since their election two and a half months ago. Social media and public forums are abuzz with criticisms of the local level representatives and the government for their failure to fix the capital’s dilapidated roads.

Amid criticism, some mayors decided to buy cell phone sets for representatives and purchase expensive vehicles for themselves. Various 15 mayors including two deputy mayors from the Kathmandu Valley have already decided to spend a total of Rs 81 million on new vehicles.


Kathmandu Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya is set to replace his Rs 8 million car with Rs 12 million SUV. Shakya will be riding the most expensive vehicle among all mayors of the Kathmandu Valley.
