KATMANDU, July 13: Veteran Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ramhari Joshi, who was active in the party’s politics since its establishment in 1947, died on Thursday. He was 93. NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi confirmed his demise.
Leader Joshi was suffering from pneumonia and was admitted to Alka Hospital recently. He was later referred to Grande Hospital after developing further complications. Joshi breathed his last while undergoing treatment.

Joshi remained unmarried throughout his life. He is considered as one of the eyewitnesses of the 1950 uprising. He was an active member of the party erstwhile known as Nepali Rastriya Congress since its inception in 1947.
Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba has also expressed his condolence over the demise of leader Joshi. “I am deeply saddened by the demise of pioneer leader Joshi. I express my sincere condolence to his families and I hope he will rest in peace,” Deuba wrote on Twitter.
Joshi was elected Member of Parliament twice from Sarlahi after restoration of democracy in 1990. Leader Joshi held the portfolio of tourism minister.
NC senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel remembered Joshi as a leader committed to democracy and simplicity. “He [Joshi] was symbol of honesty and dedication,” said Paudel.
