KATHMANDU, March 14: Social networking app Viber is now listed in Nepal.
According to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Viber has been listed for the first time in Nepal in accordance with the ‘Directive 2080 on Regulating the use of Social Networks’ prepared to regulate the use of social networks.

According to the ministry’s Spokesperson Netra Prasad Subedi, Viber has been listed as a social network after completing the entire process as per the guidelines.
He said that after Viber, LinkedIn is also in the process of being listed. It applied for listing some time ago but the documents were yet to be prepared.
“In addition, Snapchat is also preparing to proceed with the listing process,” Spokesperson Subedi said.
The ‘Directive 2080 on Regulating the use of Social Networks’ states that any social media platform operating in Nepal must be listed. It also mentions that unlisted social media platforms will be banned from operating within Nepal.
According to Spokesperson Subedi, some big social media companies are objecting to the listing process. Necessary discussions and explanations are going on for this.
