KATHMANDU, Oct 4: Nepal wants a clear victory against Sri Lanka in the second match of the ongoing SAFF Championship in the Maldives, on Monday. In the first match of the football tournament, which started on Friday, Nepal defeated the hosts Maldives 1-0.
This was the first time that Nepal defeated the Maldives. After the win against the Maldives, Nepal's goal is to add 3 more points by defeating Sri Lanka today.

According to the head coach of the Nepali national football team, Abdullah Almutairi, the victory over the Maldives would not make sense in the game against Sri Lanka. “Even though Sri Lanka is a tough team, we are confident that our winning streak will continue,” he said. “We watched the match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka played aggressively. We will play against Sri Lanka for a full 3 points rather than for a wide goal difference.”
Captain Kiran Kumar Limbu informed Republica that they want to win over Sri Lanka which will lead them one step closer to win the championship. “Sri Lanka is a good team and the game against them is important to us. We will not underestimate them,” Kiran said. “Our goal is to continue the journey of victory and we are focused on that.”
Nepal and Sri Lanka have met five times in the SAFF Championship so far. Sri Lanka has won three games while Nepal has won one game. One game ended in a draw.
