KATHMANDU, May 10: Chief Whip of the ruling CPN-UML, Bishal Bhattarai has said that a stern action will be taken against the lawmakers defying the whip issued by the party on Sunday.

Talking to Republica over the phone on Monday, Bhattarai said that the party's central committee will take an action against the lawmakers if they violate the whip and skip Monday’s parliament trust vote on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.  “We have heard that some lawmakers are going to skip the meeting, which is an inexcusable act,” he added.

Bhattarai also expressed confidence that those lawmakers will attend today’s meeting and vote in favor of KP Oli. “Yesterday, they warned of resigning en masse, now said that they would abstain from voting,” he said. “I’m sure they would join today’s session and vote in favor of Prime Minister Oli.”

While asked about the possible actions against those skipping today’s meeting, Bhattarai shared that necessary decisions will be taken only after the completion of today’s trust vote procedure in parliament.

More than 20 lawmakers close to a senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal have decided to skip today’s meeting and abstain from voting.
