KANCHANPUR, Sept 12: A herd of wild tuskers entering human settlement from the Shuklaphanta National Park destroyed swathes of paddy plantation here on Tuesday evening. 



The wild elephants cleaned up the paddy cultivation nearing harvest in Shuklaphanta municipality-5, Garjamuni.

Police Inspector Ramesh Dutta Awasthi at Area Police Office, Jhalari shared that the tuskers which sneaked into the human settlement at midnight caused damages to standing paddy cultivated by Dhauli Devi Tamauli, Tek Bahadur Saud, Ajab Singh Bohora and Dil Bahadur Bohora. 


The tuskers also triggered losses to the houses nearby paddy farm, he informed. 

There have been consistent threats from straying wild tuskers to human settlement in the buffer zone of the national park for the past three years. 


Farmers are facing tough time to ward off menace posed by elephants when the municipality has failed to come up with effective measures for preventing tuskers' terror. RSS
