Women in Concert: A medium to uplift girls in music

Director of ‘Nirbhaya Foundation’, Abhaya Subba Weise, along with eight new female singer-songwriters will perform in this year’s ‘Women in Concert’, which is scheduled to take place at Besisahar and Kathmandu on March 2 and 8 respectively.

Director of ‘Nirbhaya Foundation’, Abhaya Subba Weise, along with eight new female singer-songwriters will perform in this year’s ‘Women in Concert’, which is scheduled to take place at Besisahar and Kathmandu on March 2 and 8 respectively.



Women in Concert, represents girls who pen their own songs. With the help of music, the concert conveys the message of women empowerment and gender equality. Abhaya Subba initiated ‘Women in Concert’ in 2003 and Nirbhaya Manch has been organizing this event on the special occasion of International Women’s Day annually since 2014.


Creating a nation with equal representation of men and women not only in music but all fields of life is their main goal, said the frontman of Abhaya and The Steam Engines. “As music goes through our soul and heart, we hope to deliver a message with it.”

Our mission is to create a just nation that advances women rights and equality among women and men. We want to create an environment where there is equal representation of women and men not only in music but in all fields of life.


Subba also hopes to take this concert all over Nepal. “If we have enough sponsors, we definitely will take this concert to all over Nepal.”


 



Kathmandu ‘Women in Concert’ will feature Priyanka Sangroula, Samyang, Piroo Rana, Niharika Gyawali, Esther Siwa, Smriti Manandhar, Preetica Thapa and Sulva Joshi.


Likewise, Sunita Gurung, Eshita Ghale, Khusbu Gurung, Trishna Magar, Amisha Gurung, and Supriya Gurung will perform at the Besisahar event ( Women in Concert).


The concert also features ‘Anu ra Bimba’ and ‘Abhaya and The Steam Engines’.
