KATHMANDU, March 6: Visually impaired Chitra Bahadur Khatri alias Amit KC on Tuesday filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) against the government saying that it barred him from scaling Mt. Everest.
Originally from Jamuni Municipality-4, Baglung, visually impaired KC in the writ petition has demanded scrapping of the mountaineering regulations issued recently by the government saying that it is against the fundamental rights of differently able people.

In the writ petition, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Depart of Tourism, Bhrikutimandap have been named as defendants.
The case has been registered and is being heard on Wednesday.
The mountaineering regulations have been brought at a time when KC was making final preparations to climb the world’s highest peak.
“The mountaineering season is starting after two weeks this year. Like mountaineers of Nepal and abroad, I have invested and practiced for years and made necessary preparations to scale Mt. Everest this year. I have also received trainings and climbed Mera and Island Peak as part of preparation,” reads the writ petition.
