KATHMANDU, Oct 1: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Thursday confirmed 1,911 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours, taking the national tally to 79,728.

Through 12,444 real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests carried out in the past one day, 1,283 males and 628 females were diagnosed with this viral infection. As many as 1,033,947 RT-PCR tests have so far been carried out across the country since the first COVID-19 case was detected on January 23 earlier this year.


Of the confirmed cases, 71.98 percent – 57,389 patients – have recovered as of Thursday afternoon whereas the death tally crossed 509 with 11 more people dying of the infection in the past 24 hours. The COVID-19 mortality rate in Nepal stands at 0.63 percent, according to the ministry.


There are altogether 21,830 active cases staying at various isolation centers across the country. Of them, 220 patients are undergoing treatment at intensive care units and 25 are on ventilator, according to the daily updates released by the ministry.


Three mountain districts – Manang, Mustang and Dolpa – have no active case of this disease while eight districts including Morang, Sunsari, Siraha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Chitwan and Rupandehi still have more than 500 active cases each.


Meanwhile, the country’s federal capital, Kathmandu, reported 943 new cases of coronavirus.
