11 people missing in Sankhuwasabha as eight houses are swept away by landslide

DHANKUTA, July 12: As many as 11 people are missing in Silongchong Rural Municipality in Sankhuwasabha district since Saturday night after eight houses in the village were swept away by a massive landslide triggered by incessant rainfall.

DHANKUTA, July 12: As many as 11 people are missing in Silongchong Rural Municipality in Sankhuwasabha district since Saturday night after eight houses in the village were swept away by a massive landslide triggered by incessant rainfall.



Security personnel have been mobilized to the incident site to carry out a search operation to trace the whereabouts of the missing people in Sisuwakhola Besinda village.

According to Chairman of Silongchong Rural Municipality Ram Bahadur Kulung, the houses were swept away by the landslide at around 2 am in the night.


Although security personnel are already on their way to the incident site, they have not been able to start search operation due to incessant rainfall that has continued for the past three days, according to the District Administration Office, Sankhuwasabha.


Locals have said the landslide in the area has continued further due to the rainfall. This has left a number of locals displaced from their homes.
