18th Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival concludes

The film ‘The Silhouettes’ won the first prize on international category and won Rs 200,000 in Kathmandu International Film Festival (Kimff). The film ‘The Beloved Daughter’ was the first runner-up and ‘Baato’ won second runner-up position who bagged cash prize of Rs 150,000, and Rs 100,000, respectively.

KATHMANDU

The 18th edition of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) concluded at Film Development Board Nepal on Tuesday. There were 235 film entries from 58 countries where 18 films from 15 countries were selected for the festival. 

The film ‘The Silhouettes’ won the first prize in the international category and won the prize of Rs 200,000. ‘The Beloved Daughter’ was the first runner-up and ‘Baato’ won second runner-up position, bagging cash prizes of Rs 150,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively.

The prizes were sponsored by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), HIMFF (Himalaya International Mountain Film of China) and Fredi-Ursulla Wohland from Switzerland, respectively.

Likewise, in Nepal Panorama “Song of Clouds” won the best fiction Nepali story film winning Rs 100,000 and “The Snow Leopard Calling” won the best documentary award along with a cash prize of Rs 75,000.

The three-member jury included American documentary filmmaker Julie Bridgham, Swiss journalist and filmmaker Lisa Rusley and Nepali writer Nayan Raj Pandey who selected the best films for KIMFF.

KIMFF was conducted virtually this year due to Covid-19 pandemic. Only a few events were held physically at Film Development Board Nepal by following social distancing and other safety protocols.
