KATHMANDU, May 17: As many as 70 people in every 100 undergoing PCR tests in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City are testing positive for COVID-19.

This was revealed after the metropolis collected swab samples and conducted tests among people living in five different places in Kathmandu until Saturday for COVID-19. From Sunday, the metropolis has expended the testing collecting swab samples from 16 different places.


On average, around 600 people undergo PCR tests in the metropolis daily. Of them, more than 420 people test positive for the virus, according to the Public Health Division of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. So far, the metropolis has been conducting a PCR test for free along with the transport service to take COVID-19 patients to hospitals.


According to Hari Bahadur Kuwar, chief of the Public Health Division of the metropolis, the KMC has been witnessing a sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.


As many as 51,412 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Kathmandu Metropolitan City as of Saturday. Of them, 10, 801 people are yet to be recovered. Likewise, the COVID-19 death toll in the metropolis stands at 345.
