CHITWAN, August 24: Four more rhinoceros have been rescued by Chitwan National Park (CNP) officials after they were swept to India during the floods on August 11. Chitwan National Park Office reported that three rhinoceros were seen first in the Indian side of the border but one more rhino was seen during their thorough rescue operation.

CNP officials had gone to Bagaha, India last Friday to rescue one rhinoceros after it was swept away by the Rapti and Narayani river flooding. They also reported that the other three rhinos wandering in Balmiki Nagar, India were also rescued.

Abhinaya Pathak, eastern sector office chief at CNP said, "We saw one rhino first during our search and as we started to rescue it, we saw others. There could be other rhinos so we have kept one team in the Indian side."

Tranquilizer darts were used to sedate the rhinos who were kept in temporary dens before being transported to Sauraha. The same process was used on the first rhino that was rescued from Bagaha.

The rescue operation was carried out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning to bring back four rhinos to Nepal. Among the four rhinos, two are female and two are baby rhinos.

Meanwhile, two other rhinos which were swept away to Keuleni and Narsahi near Trivedi are still missing and yet to be rescued.
