Kathmandu Valley begins dumping its waste at Banchare Danda landfill site

KATHMANDU, May 24: The waste collected in the Kathmandu Valley was dumped at the Banchare Danda Landfill Site for the first time on Tuesday. The dumping of the valley’s garbage started today with the completion of the construction of ‘Cell One’ of Banchare Danda landfill site.

KATHMANDU, May 24: The waste collected in the Kathmandu Valley was dumped at the Banchare Danda Landfill Site for the first time on Tuesday. The dumping of the valley’s garbage started today with the completion of the construction of ‘Cell One’ of Banchare Danda landfill site.



After the Sisdole landfill site in Nuwakot was completely filled, the government had started the construction of the Banchare Danda landfill site on the border of Dhading and Nuwakot. The garbage collection of Kathmandu and Lalitpur resumed from Monday, which had been halted for a long time.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City had sent a team from Kathmandu to the Bancharedada landfill site for disposal on Monday night, under the direction of Urban Development Minister Ram Kumari Jhakri. On Tuesday, trucks carrying garbage were sent to Banchare Danda from Kathmandu. Minister Jhakri had also monitored the garbage collection in Balaju, Ratopul and other areas on Monday night.


At present, 100 trucks of garbage from Kathmandu and Lalitpur have been dumped in Banchare Danda, according to Rabindra Bohara, project chief of Banchare Danda landfill site. Stating that the situation was normal despite the general protests of the locals, he said that the landfill site at Banchare Danda will now be used continuously to dispose of the valley’s garbage.


Minister Jhakri on Monday called a meeting of the chief district officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu and Lalitpur Gobind Rijal and Ghanshyam Upadhyay respectively, Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Loknath Poudel and Chief of Security Forces of Kathmandu and Lalitpur and directed them to make arrangements for immediate disposal of the valley’s waste garbage.
