KATHMANDU, May 23: Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the increase in the price of petroleum products in the domestic market is justifiable as the price of petroleum products has also increased in the global market.

At a press conference held at the party's central office in Sanepa on Monday, Mahat said that the government has not fully increased the price as per the international price by considering the purchasing power of the people. He said that the government should be serious in this regard as the people are suffering and stressed vigilance while increasing the prices of essential commodities.

"The hike of petroleum product prices is a global issue. The government has provided huge subsidies and not allowed the prices of petroleum products to increase as per the international price. However, people are still suffering. The government should be serious about this. The government should be serious about ensuring that the prices of consumer goods do not go up,” Mahat said.
