Policemen who beat up civilian at Babarmahal on Thursday to be investigated

KATHMANDU, Sep 18: Nepal Police Headquarters has directed the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, to investigate a group of police personnel involved in beating up a civilian near Babarmahal in Kathmandu on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Sep 18: Nepal Police Headquarters has directed the Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari, to investigate a group of police personnel involved in beating up a civilian near Babarmahal in Kathmandu on Thursday.



Police had beaten up Bablu Gupta, who is also the president of 100’s group, during a peaceful protest demanding reappointment of Kulman Ghising as the Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority.

According to a high-ranking police officer, Nepal Police Headquarters has already directed the Metropolitan Police Office to investigate the case. “The authorities concerned have already started investigating the case,” the officer added.


The footage of police personnel beating up Guta has been widely circulated on different social media platforms. Social media was flooded by posts criticizing the behavior of the police. Most of the users posted that Nepal Police made the mockery of its “Police my friend” campaign by thrashing Gupta.
