SC directs to allow contractors to contest local level election

KATHMANDU, April 21: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to not implement the arrangement that prevents contractors from contesting the local level election. 



A single bench of Justice Nahakul Subedi on Monday issued an interim order in the name of Election Commission to not implement the provision to bar contractors to contest the local election. “Do not prevent the individuals involved in contract business from fielding their candidacy in the election,” said the order.

With this, the apex court has paved the way for contractors to field their candidacies and contest in the upcoming May 13 local election.
