Three candidates recommended for post of Vice Chancellor of TU

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: The recommendation committee led by Education Minister Ashok Rai has recommended three names for the post of Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU).

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: The recommendation committee led by Education Minister Ashok Rai has recommended three names for the post of Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU).



Committee sources said that the committee has recommended the names of Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki, Tankanath Dhamala and Keshar Jung Baral for the position of Vice-Chancellor of TU.


When the recommendation committee invited applications for the position of vice chancellor of TU on January 8, as many as 42 people submitted their applications. Out of them, on February 8, the committee shortlisted 14 individuals.

Prof Dr Chandra Bahadur Shrestha, Prof Dr Suresh Raj Sharma, the members of the recommendation committee, Dr Suresh Adhikari, Secretary of Ministry of Education, and Chandrakala Ghimire, Chief of TU Department of Buddhist Studies conducted interviews, judged the business plans presented, and evaluated the proposals of the shortlisted candidates on February 12, 13 and 14.


After the evaluation, the committee sought assistance of different experts during the presentation evaluation of the candidates’ concept papers and professional action plans. Then, based on their evaluation, the recommendation committee recommended the names of three people to the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the TU Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Now, PM Dahal will appoint one of the three people as the Vice-Chancellor of the TU.


Kusum Shakya, Keshar Jung Baral, Govinda Subedi and Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki, Gyanendra Prasad Paudyal, Tankanath Dhamala, Tirtha Raj Khanian, Narayan Prasad Belbase, Prakash Ghimire, Bhojraj Aryal, Mahendra Prasad Sharma, Ram Chandra Basnet, Shiva Lal Bhusal and Surya Bahadur Thapa were shortlisted for the post of Vice Chancellor of the TU.


On November 2, after the completion of the term of the then Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Dharmakant Baskota, the then Rector Prof Dr Shiva Lal Bhusal assumed the responsibility of the Vice Chancellor for three months. But even during that period, after the vice chancellor could not be selected, he continued as Vice Chancellor for an additional three months.
