KATHMANDU, May 3: Less than six months after the general election, the game of changing the government has started again. CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has offered the post of prime minister to Rabi Lamichhane , the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Pushpa Kamal Dahal, chairman of the Maoist Center, who was appointed as the prime minister with the support of the parties including UML, RSP, Janata Samahwadi and Janamat Party, took the oath of the Prime Minister on December 26. However, after the Maoists broke the cooperation with the UML and formed a new alliance with the Nepali Congress and the CPN (Unified Socialist), the UML quit the federal as well as the provincial governments.

After leaving the government, UML has formed a new alliance and is trying to topple the Dahal-led government in any way possible. At the same time, UML Chairman Oli proposed to RSP Chairman Lamichhane to become the prime minister. After receiving the proposal from the UML, Lamichhane on Tuesday held discussions with the chairman of Janamat Party, Dr CK Raut.

The Janamat Party supporting the government led by Prime Minister Dahal is dissatisfied with the government. Lamichhane has advanced the discussion of forming a new alliance with the parties including UML, RSP, Janamat, JSP and leading the government.

RSP Vice Chairman Dol Prasad Aryal said that discussions are being held with other parties as per the proposal from the UML. Stating that the final conclusion has not yet been reached, he said that further decisions will be held on the matter.

"Politics is a game of possibilities. Anything can happen. However, let's see how much the proposal made by UML can be trusted. Discussions are going on, the final decision will be made by the party’s central committee," said Aryal.
