KATHMANDU, Jan 11: The operators of Senate Club in Thamel, Kathmandu robbed and beat a customer on Saturday night.

Ivan Karki, a party lover who recently returned home from the United Arab Emirates, was at Senate Club on Saturday night. Karki complained that Chetan Lama, manager of the club, not only beat him mercilessly but also forced him to pay Rs 500,000. “He [Lama] robbed me, took my phone and ATM card and withdrew money from my bank account,” Karki maintained.

A case of robbery at Senate Club has been filed at the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ashok Singh. “Further investigation is currently underway,” he added.

Karki has also accused Lama of issuing life threat. “He has given threats to kill me if I complained to the police,” he further said.

On the New Year eve and New Year Day, Lama’s club was under the security of Metropolitan Police Circle in Lainchaur.

The nightlife in Thamel is now bouncing back to normal following the decision of the government to allow clubs and other night businesses to resume their services.

Young party goers are largely seen visiting clubs and pubs these days in the capital. But with the resumption of these activities, crime has also increased.
