Laboratories charging additional amount to be disqualified for conducting PCR tests

KATHMANDU, April 27: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has directed all laboratories not to charge additional amounts than that determined by the ministry while conducting PCR tests to see if a person is infected with COVID-19.

KATHMANDU, April 27: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has directed all laboratories not to charge additional amounts than that determined by the ministry while conducting PCR tests to see if a person is infected with COVID-19.



Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the MoHP has said that the laboratories charging additional amounts to the amount determined by the ministry in any pretexts will be removed from the list of institutions eligible for conducting the PCR test. A Chief Expert Level meeting held on Monday decided to remove such laboratories from the list.

The MoHP has determined Rs 1,000 as the fee for conducting a PCR test at the government-owned laboratories. Similarly, private laboratories are allowed to charge Rs 2,000 for conducting a PCR test.


The statement of the MoHP comes in the wake of complaints received from various quarters that various laboratories in the Kathmandu Valley as well as other parts of the country were charging additional amounts under various pretexts including controlling infection.
